Reining is a family affair for NRHA Top Twenty Owners, George & Cindy McKinzie and their daughters Carlie and Ryann. The McKinzie’s have been involved in the reining industry since being introduced to the sport in the early 1990’s. In 1994, they bought their first reining stallion, Dun Its Lucky Charm, and their interest snowballed from there.
Carlie and Ryan actively show in NRHA events and have been racking up wins since they started reining. Carlie and RU Missin Diamonds were in the top five in the non pro and won the intermediate at the 2007 NRHA Derby. She was also a non pro finalist at the 2007 NRHA Futurity on Almond Bark Chic and will be showing Mr Moth Money in the 2008 derbies.
Ryann has also done well this year on her horse Whiztacular. She plans to show Whiztacular at the 2008 AQHYA World Show and in the 2008 Derbies. She will also be showing Dancing With Cows in some cow horse events.
In 2008 George is planning on showing RU Missin Diamonds in the rookie to make a run at the Rookie of the Year, along with showing Hangtens Little Lady in the cow horse events.
As for Cindy, she has her hands full being the gopher! “Where’s my hat, did you sign me up, did you get the paper work in, did you do this did you do that!”
George owns his own company, McKinzie Construction Company (he is a commercial buildings owner real estate developer, builder) and can usually take off whenever there’s a show. We travel as a family and all help each other, we are a team. That’s’ one of the things we all love about Reining.
Together they operate McKinzie Quarter Horses, where they stand the stallion Sporty Starlight (by Million Dollar Sire Grays Starlight out of Sportin Playgirl a Freckles Playboy mare.), run a small broodmare band and show about six horses with the help of trainer NRHA Professional Troy Heikes.
McKinzie Quarter horses have several horses for sale, such as yearlings, weanlings and broodmares. Many are by sons of Grays Starlight and Smart Little Lena, as well as offspring by their stallion Sporty Starlight.
Come by the facility in East Wenatchee and the McKinzie’s would be more than willing to show around or Contact them at:
